Tequila Makes her Clothes Fall Off
Cara North
Tease Publishing LLC
ISBN: 978-1-934678-08-4
Fiction, Romance, Erotica
Reviewed by Dave Thompson

Extraordinarily witty, exquisitely plotted and profoundly erotic, Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off is, from that so-enticing title on in, one of this year’s must read romances, a novel length (204 pages) e-book that works on as many different layers as author North cares to throw in, and there’s a lot of them.

It’s the story of a rebellious heiress, Bethany, shrugging off her manipulative family’s callous designs for her future by fleeing to Las Vegas, intent on marrying the first man she meets. This turns to be Jack, a Montana ranch-hand who, it so happens, is himself trying desperately to fulfill the conditions of his own inheritance, by finding a bride and keeping her for at least three months. Neither, naturally, reveals this straight away, but they wed and, the following day, journey out to Jack’s ranch in the middle of nowhere.

There are several directions in which the book could now travel, all of which would hinge around the big city brat’s struggle to acclimatize to life 100 miles from the nearest mall- Paris Hilton meets the Beverley Hillbillies, if you like. North, however, doesn’t go there, or any place else you might expect. Yes, there are conflicts; yes, there is culture shock.  But more important, to both the story and its protagonists, is the need for two strangers to get to know one another and, ultimately, discover that they can both fulfill their chosen destinies and honor their marriage vows without any need for subterfuge.

The sex is incredible. Like the best erotic authors out there today - that is, the likes of Chrissie Bentley, Tabitha Flyte and Sonja Kindley. North’s talent lies in communicating the sensual reality of situations, as opposed to the raw mechanics, a task that is by no means as easy as it sounds, especially when your heroine is a 30-year-old virgin.  Every experience is new to Bethany, but North captures every nuance of uncertainty, shock, desire and, sometimes, embarrassment, both in and out of the bedroom (or an elevator, or a hallway, or even Jack’s truck), at the same time as adding to the reader’s own already-galloping knowledge of, and interest in the characters. The result is a story which never loses sight of its principle goals, to amuse, to intrigue and to arouse, and then keeps going from there. Tequila Makes her Clothes Fall Off really is that captivating.
