This paranormal thriller begins with a teenage Emily dreaming of a dreary funeral where a woman whose husband was shot through the heart, never the wife never sheds a tear though the gray skies obliged the dead, while a shadowy figure stands vigil atop the hillside... And so begins Elaine C. Markowicz's The Reincarnation of Eva Cromwell. Orphaned at a very young age, Emily's grandmother and family left her to be raised by nuns at St. Peter’s, a boarding school formally known as Cromwell’s Castle. There she boards with her best friends with her best friend Sheila and Dee, thee one them from getting into too much trouble. Curious about the original owners of the estate, namely the Cromwell's, they chose a ghastly, stormy night to hold a séance in the forbidden North Tower where it was rumored to be haunted by a ghost who slit the throats of all the attendees at a party one night, including itself. The three young women wanted to release the spirit, find out what really happened, and give the ghost eternal peace. The threesome received more that they bargained for and a fiery tower for good measure on top. Barely escaping with their lives, they thought their only concern was to keep Dee from confessing her sins to unburden her conscience, which would only result in their expulsion.
However, Brendan Davis, a student appeared the day of the fire, arrivingsometime in the night. He was temporarily boarding with Sheila's boyfriend, Charlie. The charismatic young man easily became embedded into Emily’s little group and became best friends with Charlie. Despite the fact that Brandon was deeply, infatuated and enchanted by Emily and became fast friends with Charlie, she kept hidden her secret visions of a hateful little girl from a past life. The little girl seemed to appear ever increasing since the tower fire. At first, the little girl appeared only in dreams, but then she began to roam the halls of the Castle. Emily later spies a distorted angry man’s face in the mirror! She’s so shaken she flees the dorm room sheer terror. Even once she is well on her way to the Senior High Scholl, she kept herbrisk pace until she rounded a corner a bit too fast and S M A C K! When she awoke in the infirmary she was dutiful told that she had made the acquaintance of Father Justin...
However before she woke Emily took another trip into the life of Eva Cromwell… Eva Cromwell confronts her husband's business partner, Dickerson, anda bitter arguments; an angry argument that would define part off the Eva’smisery, caused by her husbands best friend and partner. In any event, once she awoke to find thesudden departure of Sister Francis and the arrival of a father Justin, the moodcarried over brought more mysterious suspicion as Emily and her friendsstruggled to solve the history of Eva Cromwell's life in Cromwell Castle. Perhaps it will be to preventsuccessfully an angry ghost accidentally released from North Tower from somehow committing mass murder, yet again.
Emily's is a curious soul, who though prone to mischievous pranks with herbest friends Sheila, is primarily a seeker oftruth. She exhibits a strong since of characterand duty, though she may not know what task may befall her. Her character is relentless, fearlessand admired by the reader. Despitemy logic or intelligence may tell for what should be the answer, she'sintelligence know when to reliable on intuition. Though she initially may haveconflicting feelings toward Brendan and father Justin, she uses clues Eva's pastlife and secondary characters, like Dee, tomake a final decision. Secondary characters such as to Dee areused as gauges in to give subtle warningsto other characters in thestory, which made possible complex, but after her suspicions are usuallydismissed initially. Brandon is an extremelycharismatic young man and he becomes intensely obsessed with the history ofCromwell's Castle for too quickly. Character flaws make Emily uncorked will into lie a suspicious, the reader seems to believe she knows if this young man is the reincarnation of a man in Eva's cost. However, all isnot want it seems right.
Likewise, Father Justin's appearance soon after the fire seems to andthough he seems to speak in riddle most of the time, he does not appear to hehide his true identify and that fact that he want Emily and her to stopsearching for answer. Well he actslike a typically priest or does he? This is on character thathas created a two-dimensional and itwould to see this chatterer in another paranormal book.
The climax of this nail biting paranormal thriller was somewhatunexpected. The Author had me rightup until just before the end. At that point, I think a slight difference of opinion from the authormade this bitter/sweet ending. Thetwist of who is reincarnated of whom is truly excellent. The reader did not expected some of whathappened, yet to clues them onto where there to support the conclusion. The reader supposes the fate of all thecharacters is not quite satisfying, though understandable. All on all this is still a good read andthose whose preferences are similar to the reader’s more upbeat personality, will find the climax a bit disappointing. This is definitely the perfect book to read curled up in a chair on rainyafternoon. Ms Markowicz has histruly created a paranormal phenomenon that is unique togenre.
