Dragon in Chains
Toni V. Sweeney
Publish America
ISBN: 1-4241-1845-X
Fiction, Fantasy, Romance
Reviewed by Eugen M. Bacon

IInterspecies romance, forbidden matrimony, space voyage. Dragon in Chains is a mid-length fantasy set in the heart of conflict. Randa could never bear Kit’s children, she knows. An Edict of Isolationism hovers between them, a gray shadow in a golden sun of bliss. She is only human; and he: Terran. But love is all that matters, or is it?

Randa is forced to testify against her true love in a mock trial that could signify life or extinction.

Dragon in Chains represents Toni V. Sweeney’s early writing. And though no glinting steel sings in a symbolic clashing of medieval swords, and no blaze spewing dragons exist to bring fright, having read Toni’s much refined works, this one drew but did not fully absorb me. It managed, however, to hold ample fire, a fine dose of vibrant writing, the writer’s intensity, and a weave of politics enough to engage.
