This interesting book puts a twist into the usual business leadership books that are out there. It takes the common leadership advice and provides it in a unique framework structured around what makes a successful military leader. But the book is not just for the military?
Each topic is presented with specific application advice for both military and business leaders along with case studies from both worlds. This unusual approach not only makes the book of interest to leaders or potential leaders from each of the two worlds, but by showing how they face similar leadership challenges and can overcome them in the same way, the book bridges these two worlds, helping their leaders learn from each other.
Author Wally Adamchik can credibly pull this off because he has succeeded in the military and in business. As a Marine Corps leader, Adamchik learned from the best in how to deal with the pressures of making snap life-and-death decisions while under fire. The secret, is to stick to a set of core principles from which you should never waver. Credibility and integrity are the foundation upon which good leaders are made. He also has succeeded in business, earning an MBA and key positions in two national restaurant chains before he moved into the consulting and professional speaking roles.
While the advice is not new, how the advice is presented is quite innovative and refreshing. Most people need to hear the same advice several times and in several different ways before it starts to sink in and become part of regular practice. Adamchik’s approach is definitely different and it makes some if its points quite powerfully as the business and military leadership examples bring to life different aspects of the problem and the solution.
Looking at a situation from someone else’s perspective is always a good idea when approaching a tough problem- Adamchik’s book makes that task easier by putting two worlds in juxtaposition. I recommend this book for this innovative approach.
