Obsessed with the Egyptian culture from the age of a young girl, Sienna decides to take the trip of a lifetime to Cairo. Finally in the land that she has always subconsciously hungered for, she can only link it to the dreams that have haunted her for years. Filled with images of the strong and darkly handsome King Khufu, she never failed to reach sexual fulfillment in her dreams as he lovingly treasured her as Henutsen, his third wife. Unsure of what to make of this reoccurring dream, coupled with this invisible pull to Egypt and a lack of male companionship, Sienna is hoping for some kind of resolution during her trip.
The answer comes sooner than she expects when upon her first city visit, she finds herself lost in the corners of the famous Khan Bazaar. After half-heartedly bartering for a pair of tennis shoes, things become much more interesting as the stall owner recognizes her name for Khufu. He then leads her to a darkened underground store where he presents her with a beautiful statue of the famed god. While ecstatic that she was able to find such a priceless object, she returns to the hotel. Only then does she learn just how valuable the statue is to her.
This short but extremely addictive story was a wonderful read. With historical context, exotic locations, and mythical legends all blended together, one will not be disappointed by Ms. Martin’s example of an unforgettable holiday. I can only say that this is a brilliant read when you are short of time yet desire something with an extra kick.
