The cover of Trilogy: The Love Generations illustrates three strong women (the author, her mother, and her grandmother) who share an amazing gift, love. Extremely fitting as love is the general theme of this compilation. Many of these works illustrate the various stops along the cycle of love: that new romantic love, getting comfortable, the realization that something’s not right, letting love go, and trying to gain something from the experience.
As I was reading, I had several realizations. My first thought was that I’d been exactly same place as many of the poems described. Next, I wished I could have expressed myself that articulately and saw the future coming as clearly as the author in those situations. Finally, I realized that the author obviously had some bad spills but she always found a way to get past that hurt so that she could feel that true love that is waiting out there. I found that truly inspiring.
By far though, my favorite pieces in this book were those written for the author’s mother and grandmother. Wow, such amazing women and a beautiful tribute. I found myself in tears several times.
