In James Macomber’s latest novel, A Grave Breach takes his readers into the intricate world of Loring, Matsen, and Gould, an unusual law firm with connections to the intelligence community. Attorney John Cann, a senior associate is asked to take on a special assignment from his colleague, Arthur Matsen. He travels to Bosnia to represent a detainee in Europe. He is also unaware of why Matsen is so interested in protecting this individual to begin with. Additionally, Cann has another issue to deal with-a friend, Jeanie, who is receiving experimental treatments for “implicit memory” by a dangerous psychiatrist.
Several themes run parallel in Macomber’s story.
Unfortunately, the novel is rather slow paced when it needs to be fast paced to keep an audience engaged. The book does have a few intriguing twists and turns. However, the storyline lacks actual authenticity and will probably only appeal to those readers who have read Macomber’s past novels.
