Michael Holley can flat-out write. Red Sox Rule is a must read, not only for Red Sox fans, but for anyone who loves baseball, wants to understand how the game is played today and what goes into making successful decisions. He begins with what went on behind the scenes when Grady Little let Pedro stay in too long against the hated Yankees and then helps you get inside Theo Epstein's (and the other principals') head so you are able to understand and appreciate how and why Terry Francona got the job he does so well.
Holley did his homework in terms of how early in life Terry determined he was going to be a major league player. He describes how his father, mother and grandfather fit into the equation and who was instrumental along the way. None of the background material comes across as less than compelling parts of a fast-reading story about how the Red Sox dynasty came to be.
Stories like the one about Francona managing Michael Jordan in the minor leagues are insightful eye-openers into the people skills this man has. This is a book I will remember every time I watch or listen to a Sox game as long as Terry Francona is in the dugout. A must-have for fans and libraries with sports collections.
