B.L. Lindstrom writes Considering SomeplacElse, a modern mythological tale about a utopian world, not far from reach. His story takes place at the turn of the century during election time. Much rides on the choices citizens, officials, Nature and God make to better the world human beings inhabit.
Lindstrom engages his audience and introduces the main character, Norm Larson, a baby boomer, just unemployed, and actively seeking employment. His wife, Bev, works for FedEx. Both are barely making ends meet in their current situation. When he goes to the library to search for more leads, he stumbles across a business card with the name of SomeplacElse written on it. Having nothing to lose, he googles it and applies for a job he knows nothing about. The only question asks “What were you going to do before you were told you couldn’t?” Aside from thinking this is a scam Norm presses “Submit” and goes home to wait for a miracle.
Considering SomeplacElse is the story of a uniquely created place founded by a homeless man who won the lottery. He not only wanted to give back to the world, but make a better one as well. This fascinating story intertwines the choices we, as human beings make every day, and illustrates the consequences each one has on our society. Lindstrom should be commended for his exquisite storytelling. His novel explores the dangers of over consumption and abuse of nature in mythological form. His writing is entertaining, provocative, and meaningful in our world today.
