Being the new girl is always difficult but Allie Finkle has some very unique challenges. It’s the first day of school and the box with her tights is missing, along with the box with the bowls and spoons. Plus, the new stove hasn’t yet arrived. Popcorn becomes breakfast and Allie decides to wear jeans under her skirt (in case she climbs on the monkey bars at recess).

Then, the whole family has to walk to school together. How embarrassing! Especially considering her youngest brother dressed like a pirate. Fortunately, Allie catches a break when the fifth grade girls think that the little pirate is adorable. Unfortunately, she isn’t so lucky with the class bully, Rosemary.
