Carl Weisman writes a compelling book, So Why Have you Never Been Married-Ten Insights into Why He Hasn’t Wed about men in their forties and above who have not been married. He interviews thirty-three men and hears their stories about why they chose bachelorism over marriage for so long. Their reasons run the gamut. The only common thread is that they never married. Otherwise, the stories are diverse. While there are a few common conclusions one can draw, it would be too presumptuous to group them in a group as being the same.
Carl Weisman initially surveyed nearly 1,500 men and broke that down to 33. His book is an in-depth look into the rationale behind why these men, sharing similar characteristics of age, gender, marital status, and none ever being parents intentionally chose bachelorhood. His conversations with these men are all fascinating and bear testament to the ever changing view of society, marriage, and need for redefinition of relationships. Many who read Weisman’s book will feel comfort and identify with his findings. There is at least one story a reader can relate to in some fashion.
He also writes this book for women. This is a refreshing inclusion into the mix. Although a greater percentage of men are either remaining single or postponing marriage, women are not far behind in that number. Weisman eloquently speaks to both genders and creates a book of self-discovery, self-awareness, and affirmation for progress in social development in how society understands relationships.
