We all start off with passions, dreams, and creativity. Strangely though, as we grow up, we learn that we must hold back to please others. Men don’t find intelligent women attractive. A proper lady is quiet and supports her man’s goals while sacrificing hers. Don’t cause waves it’ll make him angry. You can have a career just make sure that home is taken care of first.

The list is endless. The result is disastrous. Over time, we go from a vibrant creature ready to take on the world to a mouse that almost feels she deserves emotional and physical abuse. We trade in our dreams to keep the piece. We cry when no one is looking. After all, everything in our lives needs to look good, even if it’s a lie on the inside.

The Power 2 Be You empowers women to make a change. The author illustrates concepts through written accounts of four women in very different situation. For some the abuse is obvious, for others much more subtle. Some come to realize that their unhealthy beliefs stem from childhood. Others find solace in their extended family. All, in one way or another, fell into a life that has closed them off. In the end, each of these women finds courage and decides to make a change. It’s truly inspirational.
