Often good screen written material for children and young adults is hard to find. Much of what is available is very badly dated. It tends to leave an overly sugary taste in your mouth and it seems so very fake.
Adra Young has prepared her second book of monologues to solve this problem. The monologues are relatively short, usually a page or two of text. All of them last under two minutes with the majority being under one minute. Props, when they are required, are generally simple and easy to find everyday objects.
The content is varied but every single monologue is based on experiences that children and young adults face in real life. The authenticity of the scenarios is powerful. I can see this book being extremely useful for drama coaches but also as a tool for in school empowerment and life skills portions of curriculums as well.
