Cassie Gordon head is beginning to clear for the first time in weeks. She begins to feel the drugs wear off that have kept her apathetic to her situation. She feels the fear rising as strange hands begin to place multi- colored veil drapes over her body and start arranging her hair. A visor is placed over her head and shackles on her hands and feet. She suddenly realizes in horror where she is. She is to be sold at the famous flesh auction in the Fortis Cluster. She is humiliated as she is exposed to a raging crowd, then she hears a soft whisper in her ear from a strange man that tells her to be calm, and that he is going to try to help her. This man, Sebastian Asteril pays a fortune for her and takes her to his ship to safety. He wants only one thing as repayment for helping her out of her horrible situation. He wants her to marry him. Cassie wants him to take her to the Crestar system where she has a job waiting for her. Little does Sebastian know that the alien people behind placing Cassie on the auction block still want her, and they are still stalking her.
This book is an awesome science fiction romance thriller. J.A. Clark draws you in and makes you a believer of her alien universe from the first paragraph. The characters are not your typical perfect male and female stereotypes. The hero is not perfectly handsome nor is the heroine engrossingly beautiful. I found this to be very refreshing, because they are allowed to have flaws. Cassie is forced into the marriage but the sensual electricity between her and her husband is felt from the moment he touches her and removes her shackles. This book is full of action, tension and intrigue. An excellent Sci-fi romance with plenty of plot twists to keep you guessing.
